Since acquiring the former East 4th Street School in May of 2000, we have invested a little over $450,000. We have installed a new roof, paved the parking areas, replaced over 100 broken windows, and chemically cleaned the brick, painted all the trim, installed a new electrical entrance, heating system upgrades and much, much more!
Over the years we have consistently been asked by concerned parents of Cameron County; “When will the gymnasium be ready to use?” We are committed to renovating the gymnasium; as a matter of fact, one of our seniors has taken on the task of sealing the gymnasium from water seepage as part of his senior project and a second teen decided as his senior project to install a new ceiling; we are pleased to say that both projects are complete.
Now that the water seepage has been addressed and we have a new ceiling, we will repair the bleachers, repaint the walls, install new lighting, and resurface the floor. As you can imagine, this is a very ambitious project and we still need your help. Your tax deductible gift of any amount will go directly into this project. Please consider supporting our cause! It’s really easy to give, just click the PayPal button on the right and your donation will be processed.
Thanks so much for your generous support of this worthwhile project.
So . . . what goes on inside the Christian Center? Well, first and foremost, we are a church with Sunday Services each weekend; Sunday schools for all ages at 9:45 AM followed by a contemporary worship service at 11:00AM. Those coming to church Sunday morning are greeting by friendly faces, fresh coffee and cookies . . . sweet! Dress is casual, blue jeans and sneakers are just fine; as a matter of fact, that’s what I usually wear Sunday too!
We also operate a food pantry; Fish and Loaves, providing emergency food needs to families who are experiencing financial stress. The food pantry is affiliated with Second Harvest Food Bank and we are well stocked with juice, canned veggies, cereal and we even have a section for infants, providing baby food and diapers too! If you or someone you know is experiencing a food crisis, we may be able to help. Just call 814-486-1841 ext 2 and leave your name and phone number and we will connect with you ASAP.
We also have a small resale shop, Country Blessings, which receives goods from the residents of Cameron County. These goods are screened and placed in the store; excess items go to Goodwill. A large portion of the proceeds from this little store, are used to help those in need. Since Country Blessings has opened in 2001, we have given out over $65,000 to the less fortunate in Cameron County. We will take most donated items, but we would rather not take furniture or appliances unless you call ahead first. You can reach Country Blessings by calling 814-486-1841 ext 1.
The Center is getting ready to launch a new ministry; The Link Internet café. Opening soon, The Link will provide free WI-FI along with premium coffee available for a suggested donation. The Link will be a place to get away, relax and enjoy surfing the internet free from distractions. The WI-FI is already installed, so we think this newest ministry will be off and running soon!
So, there you have it, a brief overview of what we do at the Center. There are many more things to talk about; stop down sometime. Be sure and look around the website . . . lots of good info for you to look over!
